SOME HISTORY

2000 FOUNDING STORY
In two successive months in 1998, Mr. Ugochukwu Nwangoro lost two (2) of his junior ones to asthma. The girl (Nkasiobi)- 15 years – was in class 5, while the boy (Ikechukwu) – 12 years – was in class 2. The two were the most brilliant in his nuclear family. It was a shock to the whole family, and gave room for many misconceptions regarding the deaths. Mostly, it was being attributed to witchcraft.

Mr. Ugochukwu Nwangoro, who then was already a University graduate (and also asthmatic) believed otherwise and started investigating and researching more on asthma deaths.

Behold, he was later to conclude that ignorance of the disorder was a strong reason for asthma deaths. Education, he noted, was a wonderful weapon against asthma deaths. From then, he started making contacts to actualise an organisation to undertake this mission, and in 1999, the Board of Trustees members met for the first time to discuss the issues

This discussion and subsequent others, gave birth to Asthma Relief Campaign Project, which has remained resolute and focused on asthma issues in Nigeria.

Mr. Ugochukwu Nwangoro is a graduate of Sociology of the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria and holds a Post – Graduate Diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Management of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria.

He also has a certificate in General Public Health of the Department of Community Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
